LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Too close to home, here’s how a witness described a robbery that turned out to be deadly on Friday at the Fashion Show Mall.
Police first responded to a call about a shooting at the fashion show parking lot at 1.30pm on New Year’s Eve.
“It seems we had a couple of citizens, a husband and a wife. they were exiting their vehicle when they were approached by a suspect, a discussion ensued about attempting to steal property, “Lt. Dave Valenta told the Las Vegas Metro Police Department.” I think it was a bag.
Witness Dave Goodwin was parking his car in the garage.
“There was a big pop and it felt like a gum had popped, and I didn’t think about it,” Goodwin said. “Then I heard a scream at the same time.
During the scuffle, the suspect shot the 66-year-old woman. She was taken to the hospital but later died.
“It’s one of those things where you have to be aware of your surroundings,” Goodwin added. “I could have been driving and seeing people and being oblivious it became that I am looking for a parking space or something with people walking by, they could have been in plain sight.”
The suspect has left the scene. Shortly after 6pm, it was then that the police responded to another robbery-turned-shooting at the Palace Station garage.
“Everything I have at this time has yet to be identified, but he is an Asian male who is believed to be around 50,” added Lt. Valenta. “That person was taken to the hospital and declared dead. We have a couple of detainees who will be the suspects, so we believe we have solved the problem right now. “
The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the identities of both victims.
This is an ongoing investigation and the identity of the suspects has not been released.
