Who should new Virginia coach Tony Elliott target in 2022 class?

Virginia struck a deal to bring Tony Elliott in Charlottesville as his next head coach. Clemson’s former offensive coordinator has his work cut out for recruiting. Virginia is currently at number 49 in the team rankings and there are still a number of major goals left on the scoreboard.

Check out five potential 2022 clients Elliott needs to call as soon as he’s at work.

Virginia almost got Rice when she originally announced her engagement, and it’s worth renewing Elliott’s push to see if there’s any chance of flipping the five-star. Rice’s ties to the Cavaliers are well documented and there is definitely a sweet spot in his heart for the team his grandfather played for and where his family went to school.

There’s only a few days left to the first day of the early subscription period, so there’s not much time for Elliott to change Rice’s mind.

Meadows is the flagship of Virginia’s class at the moment, but teams have been contacting him for months to try and turn him around. The Cavaliers have had some talent in their offensive line in recent years and Meadows should help continue this trend.

It probably won’t take Elliott long to reassure Meadows and his family that Charlottesville is the place for him, but it’s a call the new head coach needs to make.

Elliott may have his work cut out with Hardy. Virginia’s engagement has put together an outstanding senior season and there are a number of suitors chasing it. The Georgia defensive defender is someone Elliott is familiar with, but it’s important that the two quickly build a strong relationship if he hopes to keep Hardy in the fold.

A former Northwestern commit, Smith is the kind of playmaker Virginia could use on both sides of the ball. The Cavaliers were one of his top contenders before the manager change and Elliott could quickly regain momentum if he caught up soon after starting.

Maryland are the other major player in Smith’s commitment, so time may be of the essence.

Gibson, a former Navy member, saw his stock increase after an impressive senior campaign. He was close to committing Thanksgiving, but held back so he could make an official visit to Virginia for the game against Virginia Tech.

He’s engaged in Maryland, but Elliott has good connections with the people around Gibson. If the chips fall correctly, Virginia could end up flipping it over before National Signing Day.
