Vasiliy Lomachenko had a laugh as he clashed with dangerous boxer Richard Commey at the weigh-in for a crucial lightweight clash in New York.
The Ukrainian star was in excellent condition as he weighed 134.4 pounds, while Commey was also within the 134.2 pound limit prior to their fight at Madison Square Garden, live on Sky Sports from 2am Sunday.
Lomachenko then broke the tension with a laugh during the confrontation with Commey, a knockout specialist who is treated with caution by the king of the three-weight world.
“He has great power and he has scope, experience, so for me it will be a very interesting fight for the fans,” Lomachenko told Sky Sports.
“During the fight, you must always be focused on your strategy and always focused on your speed and reaction”.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum hopes Lomachenko’s victory will make him a mandatory challenger for newly crowned unified champion George Kambosos Jnr.
“Loma is number 1 with the WBC and the WBO,” Arum told Sky Sports.
“Kambosos will make a voluntary defense, so he could fight Lomachenko in Australia.
“I’ve been promoting fights in Australia. It’s a great place for fights. They have big fans who would welcome Lomachenko.
“I am optimistic that, at the end of next year, we will have Loma back in the fight for the titles.”
On the undercard, Jared Anderson can enhance his reputation as one of the most exciting heavyweight contenders in the world.
Anderson, who has eliminated all 10 of his opponents, faces Ukrainian Oleksandr Teslenko.
Nico Ali Walsh also returns to the field against Reyes Sanchez, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Muhammad Ali fighting in the famous New York headquarters.
American Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis resumes her professional career against Jose Zaragoza.
