With a new year come the new fashion trends.
Insider spoke to stylists and designers about their predictions for the clothes and accessories we will see everywhere this year.
Here’s what they said:
The fisherman hat fashion of the 90s will remain strong
Sahra Schukraft Brandt, the founder of Shop the City, said the fashion trends of the 90s and early 2000s are making a big comeback.
We’ve already seen a nod in recent years and bucket hats in all styles and colors are on the rise again.
Brandt said we’ll see this trend particularly with younger generations, but he expects some younger millennials to come on board as well.

Jasie Style, fashion and wardrobe designer, said there is one outfit that will take center stage in 2022: the power suit.
This is especially true of women’s fashion this year.
“These powersuits are colorful, beautiful fabrics and bold designs,” Style told Insider. “Most modern women have entered the leadership space after the pandemic and are focusing on expanding their business endeavors and the professional aspect as they do so.”
Sustainable clothing is on the rise
Celebrity stylist Kat Eves told Insider that sustainable and ethical fashion is making a splash.
This includes repeating the dress and choosing vintage options as well as supporting more ethical clothing brands.
“I expect 2022 to be all about ethical and sustainable fashion,” he said. “So expect to see more and more celebrities and trendsetters re-wearing objects or dresses or choosing more and more vintage dresses, just like Zendaya did in her recent Roberto Cavalli vintage dress, designed by Law Roach.”
He also predicted that people “will choose to rock with brands with specific sustainability and ethical claims.”

Chic Pursuit fashion influencer Maria Juvakka predicts that baggy jeans with a lower rise will continue to gain popularity this year.
“The baggy, flared jeans can be worn on a night out, to school or even to work on a casual day,” she said.
This trend is following the big mom-jeans moment of 2021.
Bold chains and cocktail rings are perfect for dressing up outfits
Fie Isotta, a Scandinavian jewelry designer, said the bold link chains we’ve seen everywhere in 2021 are here to stay. And this year they will appear alongside eye-catching oversized cocktail rings.
“Bold link chains and cocktail rings will set the tone for your outfit in 2022,” she told Insider. “People want to leave a mark and make a statement.”
Everyone will wear cardigans

Celebrity stylist Mary Francis told Insider that cardigans will make a comeback as a versatile wardrobe piece this year.
“You’ll see men and women incorporating more cardigans into their wardrobes and using them as jackets,” she said.
Wide leg pants are having an important moment
Brandt told Insider that the trouser legs will only get wider this year.
“The skinny pants are out, and while the straight legs have been up and up, we’re seeing legs wider and wider on the pants and jeans,” she said.
Bright colors are sure to be a hit
