Tottenham discussed Tanguy Ndombele’s departure from the club in January, with Spurs also considering bids for Dele Alli’s departure.
Spurs have spoken to Spanish and Italian clubs about the exit of Ndombele, who has struggled to make an impact since joining for a record £ 63m from Lyon in the summer of 2019.
The starting talks took place ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup win over Morecambe, which saw the midfielder whistling loudly after he showed no urgency to get off the pitch when he was substituted on the hour with the Spurs trailing by 1. -0.
Despite being awarded a starting spot against League One wrestlers, Ndombele once again failed to impress and headed for the tunnel after being mocked.
The 25-year-old still has a three and a half year contract with Spurs who are negotiating a permanent move from the North London complex for both the player and the club.
Asked about the audience’s reaction to Ndombele, Spurs boss Antonio Conte said: “You have to be good to try and change your mind. If someone is disappointed in you. It’s normal.
“We have to know very well that if we do well the fans are happy. If you don’t perform well, the fans are not happy. This is football. If we think that the fans must be happy at any time, whether you win or lose, I think that’s not fair.
“For sure, when I don’t win, I’m not happy, I’m angry and I think that’s okay.”
Club to evaluate offers for Alli and Doherty
Tottenham will also be considering formal offers for Dele Alli and Matt Doherty to leave the club this month.
Alli has made 18 appearances in all competitions for Spurs this season and scored two goals.
The 25-year-old has struggled for form in recent seasons and has yet to impress new manager Conte.
Doherty could also join the English midfielder in leaving Spurs this January.
The right-back arrived from Wolves in August 2020 but has only started 13 Premier League games.
The Republic of Ireland international still has two and a half years left on his contract.
The Spurs want to sign a right back and a forward
Meanwhile, Tottenham are working to sign a right-back and a forward, the two positions they have prioritized this month.
Tottenham are showing strong interest in Wolves striker Adama Traore, with news suggesting Conte wants to turn the Spaniard into a right-back.
The Spurs were in talks to hire Traore at the end of the summer transfer market and their interest remained despite the change of coach from Nuno Espirito Santo to Conte.
