Sex education on Netflix

Recommended by Zoe Williams, co-founder and designer of Zoe and Morgan

I’ve enjoyed many Netflix series and love how modern shows capture that openness in points of view and painful subjects, with awkward silences and beautiful dresses. Sex education it was great, I got so into the characters so much and Gillian Anderson has always been great.

Game of Thrones on Neon

Recommended by Sarah-Jane Duff, designer of Lost and Led Astray

Exclude last season (roll your eyes). TV is my getaway and I was really hooked on the fantasy world it dominated game of Thrones. This was a show that always made me guess and I couldn’t be late to watch it.

Shetland on Netflix; Queen Sugar on TVNZ On Demand; Insecure about Neon; Squid games on Netflix

Recommended by Keva Rands, designer and founder of Papa Clothing

Shetland is a murder mystery set in Shetland, an island off the Scottish coast. The main detectives have a beautiful, supportive and platonic relationship and the scenario is stunning. Knitwear is also reason enough to watch the series.Sugar Queen by Ava Duvernay is set in Louisiana near and around New Orleans. It describes the reality of being an African American in the South. The main characters all go through their own struggles and triumphs and get closer after past trauma. There is agriculture, politics, NBA drama, police abuse, and love of family.Insecure, written and performed by Isa Rae, it is a show with characters of people who feel familiar. They are fun, beautiful and their dresses and hairstyles are 10/10.Squid games it is visually stunning and once again the creativity and weirdness that only Korean films and television can accomplish is executed perfectly.

Celebrity Treasure Island on TVNZ On Demand

Recommended by Anjali Burnett, co-founder of Twenty-Seven Names

Last season – I can’t recommend this show enough, it brought me so much JOY.

The Panthers on TVNZ on Demand

Recommended by Amy Lautogo, designer of Infamy Apparel

I love seeing Pasifika’s stories on TV, even when those stories are hard to watch. It is important to see the climate that our parents had to endure and that others can get a taste of that experience. Beautifully crafted with care – Immerse yourself in this era of activism.

Easttown Sea on Neon

Recommended by Elisabeth Findlay, co-founder of Zambezi

Kate Winslet is a favorite and her take on the character and her performance are outstanding – I love whodunnits! I also really like the documentaries that Rialto and Prime Rocks have about artists, musicians, directors, photographers and architects and Māori TV for their alternative film selections and interesting interviews.

The Sopranos on Neon

Recommended by Karen Walker

No doubt The Sopranos it’s the greatest TV show of all time and no one will ever convince me otherwise. I’ve seen it from S1E1 to the end at least four times and it never ceases to amaze me. The constantly evolving structure; the complexity of the characters; the basic level is the story of a man interacting with his family and his business; the enigmatic ending; humor; Silvio’s hair; Livia is everything; the dialogues make it absolutely masterful. I will watch it again and again and again for years to come.

Lupine on Netflix

Recommended by Sarah Cotteral, founder of Silk & Steel

A retelling of the classic French story about Arsène Lupine, the world-famous gentleman thief and master of disguise. I’ve lived, studied and worked in France for a few years, so not only is this a great storyline, but I also love hearing French.
