Every Christmas day we are offered new photos of the royal family as they go to church for the festive service.
Covid has ruined the Queen’s plans for a large celebration in Sandringham, but will still have a smaller relationship with the firm’s core members.
We will only see a glimpse of Her Majesty on television during the holiday season, so to keep spirits up, we’ve dug into the archives to bring you joyful photographs of the royal family from past Christmases.
From sweet Prince Harry in his shepherd’s robe to His Majesty dressing up a Christmas tree, here’s a reminder of their happiest holidays.

Harry the shepherd
Participating in the Christmas nativity scene is a long-standing tradition in the Royal Family.
In 1988, four-year-old Prince Harry stepped out in his holiday attire for what we can only assume was a heartbreaking performance for his mother, Princess Diana.
Harry was given the role of a shepherd in the school nativity scene play and one lucky photographer took this cute photo.
Young Harry slipped a poncho over his plaid shirt and a sleek blue tea towel on his head. Paired with his black patent leather shoes and knee socks, you can’t help but coo!

Meghan’s admirer
In December 2018, Duchess Meghan visited Brinsworth House in Twickenham to meet some of Britain’s most famous former entertainers.
Affectionately known as the old pros’ paradise, the Twickenham house has played host to stars such as Norman Wisdom and Leslie Grantham of EastEnders.
During the Duchess’s visit she met 1970s heartthrob Richard O’Sullivan, sang carols with the residents and helped create a Christmas collage with a guy who couldn’t take his eyes off her – how sweet!

Queen of the Christmas tree
The queen appeared at a new national children’s center in 2018 to decorate her massive tree – and she really got into the holiday spirit.
One of the children ordered Her Majesty to have her decoration appear on a specific tree branch.
She, of course, positioned it with perfect precision and helped the little girl fix hers too.

Her Majesty has a soft spot for children, including her great-grandson and heir to the throne, Prince George.
And she loves a good Christmas tree – this year the staff erected a 20-foot beauty in Windsor.
Diana meets Santa Claus
Princess Diana was loved for her charitable nature and Great Ormond Street Hospital was an important part of her life.
She visited sick children in December 1987 and helped out Santa Claus to distribute Christmas presents.
The Princess of the People became the patroness of the hospital from 1989 until her death.

Christmas with Kate
The Duchess of Cambridge goes into action at Christmas time to give Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte a happy holiday.
As the patroness of Family Action, she also makes vulnerable children a priority.
In 2019, Kate dressed in red and green to hear the charity’s hard work at Peterley Country Farm.
