Simon McCoy quits GB News as Eammon Holmes joins the breakfast team

Simon McCoy left GB News, following in the footsteps of President Andrew Neil who left the news channel earlier this year.

During his time at the broadcaster, Simon attended The Great British Breakfast alongside Kirsty Gallacher.

Simon was officially announced that he will be joining GB News in March, but the news channel didn’t launch until June.

The former BBC broadcaster said at the time: “I’ve spent my career broadcasting news and start-ups, and GB News is one of the most exciting yet. It’s just the kind of jolt the industry needs.” .

GB News has since confirmed the news of Simon’s departure on Friday 10 December and said the 60-year-old broadcaster would leave “for personal reasons”.

Simon is expected to officially leave the company in the new year.

Facing his departure, CEO Angelos Frangopoulos said in a statement: “Simon is an outstanding broadcaster and we are sorry to see him go.”

“We remain open to ways we can work with him in the future,” he added.

Simon has yet to publicly comment on his release.

News of Simon’s departure comes just a day after This Morning’s Eamonn Holmes is announced to join GB News in January.

Eamonn said in a statement: “I’ve spent my career broadcasting news and start-ups, and GB News is one of the most exciting so far. That’s exactly the kind of reorganization the industry needs. “

He added: “I admired GB News from the start for its clever mix of punchy debates, but delivered with warmth and even a little fun.

“For me the greatest honor in journalism is to give a voice and respect to those who have not been listened to, and this is exactly what GB News does”.

Eamon, who has been on This Morning for 15 years, also took to Twitter to share the news.

“Here’s the news ….. I’ve been joining @GBNEWS since the new year,” he said.

“I hope you come with me and I wish you well. In the meantime, congratulations to you for the season and thanks for your support folks. “

In light of his announcement, an insider told The Mirror that the 62-year-old TV presenter will miss ITV viewers.

They told the publication: “Eamonn’s move to GB News marks the end of an era.

“He will be missed by many ITV viewers but, the truth is, this job offer probably came at just the right time for both him and ITV. All good things come to an end.”
