Sean Longstaff: Everton make offer for Newcastle midfielder with Rafa Benitez keen on reunion | Football News

Everton has made an offer for Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff.

Newcastle, however, are keen to retain the 24-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Everton boss Rafa Benitez has previously worked with Longstaff at Newcastle and would like to reunite with him at Goodison Park.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is aware of Longstaff’s qualities and last month challenged the midfielder to show why he deserves a new contract.

Howe said: “Sean is a very good player and will have the opportunity to show his talent.

“He can show me and the club that he has a long-term future here. It is also in his hands, not just in our hands.”

Newcastle interested in Lucas Digne from Everton

Newcastle are interested in Everton left-back Lucas Digne, who has had a fight with Benitez and is looking for a release this month.

However, the Magpies will face competition for his signing, with Chelsea, West Ham and another unnamed Premier League club interested in the French international.

Napoli are also interested in finding an agreement for the 28-year-old, although the Italian club is only interested in a loan with a redemption option, which does not fit Everton’s demands.
