Scotland will aim to return to another Netball World Cup

Scotland will host the European Netball World Cup Qualifiers, which will feature Thistles, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales, Gibraltar and the Isle of Man.

The six teams will compete against each other in an attempt to qualify for the 2023 Netball World Cup, hosted by South Africa. Qualifiers for the European Netball World Cup will take place from 14 to 18 October 2022 at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

“We are delighted to have secured the hosting rights,” said Claire Nelson, CEO of Netball Scotland.

“The Netball World Cup is the pinnacle of the world netball calendar and the event for which all nations strive to qualify and compete, thus being able to have the support of our home crowd as we tackle the rest of the world. Europe gives us an important advantage.

“Here in Scotland, we have built a strong reputation for offering world-class events and look forward to working with the city of Glasgow and key partners to ensure we organize exceptional qualifiers for netball teams, fans and global audiences.”

A total of 16 nations will be part of the Netball World Cup 2023, and with England already securing their spot, that means only two of the Netball World Cup European Qualifiers will come to South Africa.

“Next year’s World Cup qualifiers are huge for us,” said Tamsin Greenway, the Scottish Thistles manager.

“To be able to host this event in Scotland is very exciting news. We look forward to welcoming other nations and performing a great performance both on and off the pitch.”
