Rivals Rankings Week: JUCO rankings updated for 2022 class

There is less than a week left until the early enrollment period, and as the focus is on high school prospects and the transfer portal, junior college ranks are also critically important when building a recruiting class.

Here’s a look at the best junior college prospects in the 2022 class and a breakdown of where these players are headed.

1. TYRONE WEBBER

The best junior college wannabe in the class of 2022, originally from Canada, committed to the state of Oklahoma in mid-October, the same day the Cowboys beat Texas.

Auburn, Missouri, Houston, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and others were involved in his recruiting, but Oklahoma State popped up early and landed a major chunk for his offensive recruiting line.

2. JEFFREY I AM

Originally from Gabon, M’Ba then moved to France at the age of four where he started playing football and was also interested in fashion, so he definitely took a winding road to play defensive tackle in Independence (Kan .) Independence CC

M’Ba only started playing football a few years ago but has caught the attention of coaches across the country with Auburn and Tennessee along with Miami, USC and many others involved. M’Ba has hinted that she has a favorite and may know where she is going, but she hasn’t announced anything publicly yet.

3. ZAH FRAZIER

Frazier began his college career in Southern Illinois but then moved on to Coffeyville (Kan.) Coffeyville CC, where he saw his recruiting take off significantly.

Recently, the 6-foot-4 cornerback announced the top three from Mississippi State, Utah and UTSA.

Kentucky has joined the mix and is expected to visit Lexington this weekend.

4. JB NELSON

A native of Pittsburgh (Pa.) Mt. Lebanon, Nelson ended up taking some classes in Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna JC, camping in Penn State and getting an offer during that training. He engaged with the Nittany Lions in early July.

Penn State’s staff had success there before primarily by landing superstar defensive player Ja’Quan Brisker in the 2019 class.

5. PERCY LEWIS

After an initial engagement with Oregon, Lewis relinquished that engagement at the end of November, just weeks before the then Ducks manager. Mario cristobal left for Miami. The massive offensive lineman now listed at 6 feet-8 and 360 pounds is embroiled in a battle in the state between Ole Miss and Mississippi State as the extraordinary Perkinston (Miss.) Gulf Coast CC searches for the best solution.

6. READ KPOGBA

Kpogba has come full circle with his recruitment. The former four-star linebacker from Winston Salem (NC) Parkland gave up an early engagement in West Virginia and chose Syracuse, where he played for the Orange before moving up to the junior college ranks. Kpogba landed in Scooba (Miss.) East Mississippi CC and engaged with the Mountaineers again earlier this month.

7. CORTEZ EATMON

The native of Jasper, Ala., Began his undergraduate career at William Penn College in Iowa, moved to Independence (Kan.) Independence CC but then moved to Perkinston (Miss.) Gulf Coast CC and ended up in engage in the state of Mississippi.

However, in November 2020, Eatmon gave up that commitment and then landed at Council Bluffs (Iowa) Iowa Western CC where he is currently playing. His recruitment remains pending, but UConn, Hawaii and ULM have recently offered and many more are involved.

8. DESMOND WILLIAMS

Earlier this month, Williams committed to Tennessee and plans to enroll in January after spending three seasons at Decatur (Miss.) East Central CC

Houston, Mississippi State, West Virginia, Memphis and others had also offered Williams, who was a 2019 prospect to Forsyth (Ga.) Mary Persons before heading to the JUCO route.

9. PEARL OF SHEMAR

Peal committed to Missouri as a high school student in Plano (Texas) Plano West, but gave up that commitment and then went to Garden City (Kan.) Garden City CC where he chose Missouri again, only to disengage a second time .

The Tigers are still in the fray for three-star defense, but Baylor, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Texas Tech are others to watch.

10. DECARLOS NICHOLSON

A summer engagement in the state of Mississippi, Nicholson gave up that commitment about a month later in August and then committed to Kentucky in mid-September. But his recruitment isn’t over yet as Perkinston (Miss.) Gulf Coast CC 6-foot cornerback took a trip to the state of Florida that impressed him. Ole Miss is trying to overthrow Nicholson too.

11. TYRECE MILLS

Sound familiar? Penn State tapped into its Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna CC contacts and got a high-level prospect, this time in Mills, three-star security. Hailing from northeast Philadelphia (Pa.), Mills got his offer in Penn State in March and planned to visit in the summer before committing, but chose the Nittany Lions in May and hasn’t looked back.

12. MIKE SMITH

A native of Flora (Miss.) Ridgeland, Smith took the junior college route after not getting enough offers from high school and committed to South Alabama after his second season.

But there was a manager change there and Smith decided to return to Perkinston (Miss.) Gulf Coast CC for another season in which he led the league in tackles. The versatile linebacker chose Kansas in late November.

13. NADAME TUCKER

A recent offer from the state of Arizona and a visit with the Sun Devils went very well for defensive three-star Hutchinson (Kan.) Hutchinson CC, so the Pac-12 school is now a contender for him.

Kansas has also been very active with Tucker and involved with him for a long time. Houston, Memphis and others are in the mix.

14. KEYLON KENNEDY

Originally from Daytona Beach (Fla.) Continent, Kennedy has committed to Jackson State on many more offerings as the extraordinary Garden City (Kan.) Garden City CC is looking to play for Deion Sanders to the next level.

15. LOGAN COMPTON

A three-star top-tier athlete from Tomball, Texas, Compton chose Baylor out of high school but missed the 2019 season while dealing with legal matters. He entered the transfer portal and ended up at the Roswell (NM) New Mexico Military Institute.

He engaged with Marshall in June.
