Mark Sykes recovered a point for Oxford seeking promotion when they drew 1-1 with Cheltenham at Kassam Stadium.
Callum Wright gave Town a surprise lead in the 48th minute, shoving home from two yards when the U failed to clear a corner.
But after a period of heavy pressure from the home side, Sykes reached the far post to deflect Gavin Whyte’s low left cross.
Oxford top scorer Matty Taylor missed a penalty in the 29th minute, hitting him too straight when Owen Evans saved with his legs.
Taylor won the penalty himself, crashing to the ground after trying to get around the keeper, though the Cheltenham players complained that Evans had played the ball.
Sykes then fired Cameron Brannagan’s pull-back over the bar, leaning too far back as he fired.
Despite some absences for Covid-19, Cheltenham had a lot of ball possession and Oxford goalkeeper Simon Eastwood saved with his legs from Lewis Freestone.
Eastwood later deflected Liam Sercombe’s shot while Brannagan came close twice for the U.
