Nathan Patterson: Everton close in on deal to sign Rangers right-back | Football News

Everton are ready to strike a £ 16m deal to sign right-back Nathan Patterson from Rangers.

The Scottish Premiership champions had turned down two offers for the 20-year-old in the summer, insisting their assessment had not been met for the Academy graduate who made his GERS debut in January 2020.

However, Everton made a third move for Patterson at the start of this transfer window which will see Rangers earn a record starting club share of around £ 12 million, with further additions worth £ 4 million.

Patterson started in just two of his six Scottish Premiership appearances this season, with the club’s starting right-back captain James Tavernier.

He made his Scotland debut last June in a 1-0 win over Luxembourg before scoring his first international goal against Moldova in November.

Everton’s move for Patterson comes after Rafa Benitez’s side confirmed the purchase of another defender, Vitaliy Mykolenko, from Dynamo Kyiv.

In October, when asked about Everton’s initial interest, Patterson said: “Yes, it was obviously nice to see the teams interested, but I’m only interested in playing football.

“This is the stuff that comes with it and I’m not really aware of everything that’s going on, I go out on the pitch and do my thing and let the outside do the talking.

Patterson was asked about his future at Rangers in October but said he was focusing on his football

“You have to keep your feet on the ground and just focus on your kick and that’s what I did.

“In football, now there are media everywhere and you have everyone’s opinions.

“Sometimes you just have to block it out and focus on yourself, surround yourself with the right people and I feel like I have. I have a good group of friends, good teammates and even family members who keep pushing me forward to do well.”
