Moroccan Sofiane Boufal struck seven minutes from time to secure a 1-0 victory over Ghana in Monday’s opening match of Group C at the African Cup of Nations.
Boufal struck home from close range after Zakaria Aboukhlal’s mad dash into the penalty area, only to be controlled by Ghanaian Thomas Partey, with the ball then working perfectly for Boufal to score.
The goal came from a rare occasion in a match where both teams displayed defensive skills but did little to impress in attack.
The victory sees Morocco move to the top of the group together with Gabon, who beat the Comoros Islands 1-0, also on Monday.
Morocco will face Comoros on Friday at 4pm, while Ghana will face Gabon in their other Group C clash later that day at 7pm. Both games are live Sky Sport Soccer.
