Michail Antonio missed West Ham’s Carabao Cup match at Tottenham after receiving a positive Covid-19 test result, manager David Moyes confirmed.
The 31-year-old striker tested positive last week and was therefore excluded from the quarter-final challenge on Wednesday night, with Jarrod Bowen leading in his place.
Moyes also picked goalkeeper Alphonse Areola and Harrison Ashby and Ben Johnson, as the other changes from the side that lost 2-0 at Arsenal last week.
talking with Sky Sports before the Tottenham match, Moyes said: “Michail Antonio tested positive about a week ago, so we are getting close to his return. Obviously he is not available tonight.”
West Ham are vying to join Arsenal in the semi-finals of the competition.
They are to host Southampton in the Premier League on Boxing Day, before a trip to Watford on Tuesday 28 December.
Those matches will go ahead as planned, after the Premier League decided not to implement a coronavirus automatic switch in response to the increase in the number of cases among players and staff.
The EFL, meanwhile, has already seen a series of Boxing Day games across the league, League One and League Two postponed for Covid-related reasons.
