Rangnick first met Sharp at the New York Red Bulls, where he worked as a performance analyst – and the move strengthens United’s behind-the-scenes squad following the departures of Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna.

The Toronto sun he once described how Sharp played an important role in “opposition scouting, match planning, match analysis and post-match. He also assisted the scouting department in identifying and recruiting.”

Sharp served as a member of Chris Armas’ coaching staff at Toronto FC for a six-month stint earlier this year before his manager was fired in July after only two wins in 15 games.

Rangnick named American Armas as his assistant earlier this month, following Michael Carrick’s departure following his three-game stint as keeper.
