LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A suspect in the deadly shooting at the Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve has been linked to another case, according to police.
Suspects Jordan Ruby, 18, and Jesani Carter, 20, sat silently in court Monday morning as subway investigators explained what led to the murder of Clarice Yamaguchi, a 66-year-old tourist from Hawaii.
“When the passenger exits, he grabs the woman’s bag and a fight begins. The husband sees this and tries to deal with the suspicion. That’s when he fires a shot, ”explained Detective Kasey Kirkegart.
The detectives also explained a second crime involving Carter, which took place at Encore in November 2021.
“In November, during that car stop, there is a bodycam video of a vehicle in which the driver was identified as Desani Carter and appears to be wearing the same sweatshirt that the offender was wearing in this case,” he said. said Detective Christopher Schallios.
The judge also listened to the prison audio recordings, but those weren’t played for the courtroom.
“During that phone call, Mr. Ruby indicates that he came to Las Vegas for the purpose of robbing people. It’s correct.”
Both suspects remain behind bars without bail and both are expected to return to court in 30 days.
