Kate Middleton’s most iconic looks from student to stylish Duchess as she turns 40

During her time as part of the royal family, Kate Middleton amazed us all with a whole host of fabulous dresses.

Whether it’s jeans and a casual jacket or going all out glam on the red carpet of an event, there’s nothing the mom of three can’t show off.

So as the style icon turns 40 today, we’re taking a trip down memory lane and remembering some of our favorite looks that Kate has sported over the years …

Graduation (2005)

Kate and Prince William both graduated from the University of St Andrews on June 15th 2005 and by this time we knew Kate loved a coordinated outfit.

Dressing elegantly for the occasion, the brunette opted for a classic white shirt, black mini skirt and black pumps – and even managed to make her graduation gown chic.

80’s roller disco (2008)

In September 2008, Kate made an appearance at a charity event in London that saw her sporting a look we very rarely see at the Duchess.

Since the event had the 80s disco theme, Kate opted for a green sequined halter neck top with a pair of yellow hot pants and black knee-high boots.

Luckily this happened before he joined the royal family, so there was no violation of the rules.

Wedding day (2011)

On her wedding day, April 29, 2011, all eyes were on Kate as she stepped off the Westminster Abbey carriage in her princess wedding dress.

For the very special occasion, the Duchess did not disappoint with an Alexander McQueen lace dress designed by Sarah Burton.

From the nine-foot-long train to Victorian-inspired details and her Cartier tiara borrowed from The Queen, this was a fashion landmark.

BAFTA Event (2011)

How does Kate make anything so regal and sophisticated?

Fans fell in love with the Duchess even more when she walked out to a BAFTA event in Los Angeles in July 2011 wearing an Alexander McQueen floaty lilac dress.

Kate then wore this stunning gown in 2021 for Prince William’s Earthshot Prize ceremony.

Baptism of Prince Louis (2018)

At the christening of her third child, Prince Louis, Kate made sure to dress discreetly for the occasion.

Kate effortlessly paired this Alexander McQueen dress with a Jane Taylor hat which allowed the Duchess’s smile to take center stage.

Kate also chose to wear this white suit out of respect, but also to imitate the clothes she wore for Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s baptisms.

Violation of the rules (2019)

Being part of the royal family has a number of style rules and even Kate has strayed from them on occasion.

In June 2019, the mom of three broke some protocols with a Barbara Casasola off-the-shoulder dress for a special event.

Not only did it bare the shoulders, but the fabric was equipped with bold slits. We are happy that she broke the rules to show off this awesome outfit once again, having worn it earlier in 2016.

A Princess Diana Moment (2019)

Kate embodied her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, by replicating the iconic blue velvet “Travolta” dress she wore at the White House in November 1985.

The mom-of-three sported a fitted dress from her designer Alexander McQueen to an evening reception at Buckingham Palace in December 2019.

Kate has paid tribute to Diana on multiple occasions, but this has to be one of our favorite outfits.

BAFTA (2020)

Another occasion that saw Kate amaze with a classic choice was the 2020 BAFTAs, where she wore an iconic Alexander McQueen dress.

Adhering to the event’s wardrobe sustainability suggestion, the Duchess exuded glamor in her elegant white and gold dress.

Royal Tour (2021)

We love the Duchess the most when she makes her special event appearances wearing some super chic ensembles that aren’t necessarily pageant dresses.

During the Royal Tour of Scotland in May 2021, Kate paid the ultimate tribute to the country by sporting a blue Scottish trench coat from designer Holland Cooper.

The outfit was paired with matching blue pumps and a gold glitter skirt underneath that perfectly highlighted the golden buttons of the coat.

James Bond premiere (2021)

How not to include this flawless gold sequin dress from the James Bond: No Time To Die premiere in September 2021?

Kate walked the red carpet of the star-studded event in a flawless cloak dress from another of her favorite designers, Jenny Packham.

Throughout her years as part of the famous family, Kate hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down with her envious style.
