Judge to decide bail next week for Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard

TORONTO, Jan 14 (Reuters) – The judge at the bail hearing of Canadian designer Peter Nygard, accused of sexual assault and forced imprisonment, said Friday that he will issue his decision on Nygard’s release next week. .

Ontario Justice of the Peace John Scarfe said he would deliver his sentence virtually Wednesday at 10:00 ET (1500 GMT).

Nygard, born in Finland, is accused in both Canada and the United States in connection with incidents that allegedly occurred between 1987 and 2006. He has denied any charges.

The bail hearing covers the charges brought by the Canadian authorities. Arguments between Nygard’s lawyers and the Crown Attorney concluded on Friday.

The hearing is subject to a broad publication ban which prevents reporting on the details of the proceedings.

Nygard, 80, appeared via video feed from a Toronto prison. He wore an orange jumpsuit and a blue surgical mask.
