Kate Middleton will turn 40 on Sunday 9 January.
Kate spent her last birthday quietly at home with Prince William and their children after the pandemic put an end to any big project.
But like any other young couple, the Cambridge have failed to mingle with their inner circle and William is determined that Kate’s big 4-0 should be a truly special occasion.
In 2019, he celebrated in style with a group of his closest friends, throwing a house party at Anmer Hall in Norfolk.
This year, Prince William is said to be planning a series of surprise celebrations rather than a huge party.
However, since she became a mother, Kate has tended to opt for more informal events at home despite once frequenting the nightclubs of Sloane Square in London regularly.
However, in the past few years, the royal has opted for larger celebrations and enjoyed a number of luxurious birthday events.
Let’s take a look at some of the most memorable …
2007 – Kate’s 25th birthday
Kate celebrated her 25ththis year on earth with his sister Pippa, eating and dining in Sloane Square while William was away.
So many photographers descended on Kate’s London apartment in hopes of photographing the birthday girl that Clarence House was forced to issue a statement, demanding that she be left alone.
William came home with a green enamel Van Cleef & Arpels diamond-framed makeup case, with a polo player about to hit a pearl.
2009 – Kate’s 27th birthday
This year, William was definitely in attendance and surprised Kate with a candlelit dinner in the remote log cabin on the Balmoral estate in Scotland.
With nothing but the sound of the river to keep them company, they dined in the cottage which was also adored by William’s great-grandmother, the Queen Mother.
2012 – Kate’s 30th birthday
This was Kate’s first birthday since the royal wedding, meaning the eyes of the nation were on her more than ever, so it would have been impossible to leave without a hustle and bustle.
So instead, Kate enjoyed a quiet family dinner at home.
“[She] he had a quiet reunion with family and friends on Monday evening, “said a palace aide at the time.” The dinner was held in private accommodation on one of the properties located near their home in Kensington Palace.
