Rohit Sharma to miss India test series in South Africa due to hamstring injury

India batsman Rohit Sharma was barred from the three-test series against South Africa due to a hamstring injury and will be replaced by Priyank Panchal, the country’s cricket commission (BCCI) said Monday.

Rohit, who replaced Virat Kohli as captain of the Indian national team last week, injured his left hamstring during a training session in Mumbai on Sunday.

Panchal, 31, was part of India’s ‘A’ team that played an unofficial three-game test series in South Africa earlier this month.

The first test is expected to start in Pretoria on December 26th.

Meanwhile, home team hitter-keeper Quinton de Kock may also miss the second and third test games, with his wife expecting the birth of their baby in early January, according to reports.

The second test will start on January 3 in Johannesburg, while the final test is scheduled for January 11 in Cape Town. The teams will then play three one-day internationals.

De Kock last appeared for South Africa at the Twenty20 World Cup, where he decided to miss the second group match following an order from the draw to kneel in support of the “Black Lives Matter” movement.

He later apologized for his decision and knelt in the next three games when South Africa were eliminated in the Super 12 stage of the competition.
