Geraldine Larrosa, former wife of Carlos Marín de Il Divo, broke the silence after the tragic death of the singer last week.
The Spanish baritone was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary last week after falling ill on 7 December and subsequently testing positive for Covid-19.
The 53-year-old was put into a medically induced coma with the classic male quartet Il Divo who took to Twitter to share the devastating news of his death on Sunday 19 December.
And now Carlos’ ex-wife Geraldine, who has been married to him for three years since 2006, has shared a heartbreaking tribute to the “great love of his life” with a slew of throwback snaps.
Sharing a lengthy tribute, written in Spanish, the 44-year-old singer wrote: “Thank you all for respecting my painful silence!
“I want everyone to know that Carlos Marin was and always will be the great love of my life, he is the best person in the world, the most generous person in the world.
“I know the universe will unite us millions of times will marry us millions of times that I have no doubt! I love you with all my soul!”
Geraldine, better known as her stage name, Innocence, continued: “Your goddaughter loves you madly! I know you are here by my side and next to our family, but you have left us a huge void! I love you, my love.
“Your voice, your joy, your affection and your humor are imbued in my soul! You are my great love that has marked the rhythm of my heart!” he concluded.
The French-Spanish singer, born in Lyon, married Carlos in Disneyland, California in June 2006, but divorced in 2009 after being together for 13 years.
While the reason for their divorce is unknown, Geraldine and Carlos remained “great friends” with the singer at the classical music star’s bedside in hospital, according to her agent.
Earlier this month, Geraldine posted a snapshot of her with Carlos and a group of dancers revealing that the couple had recorded a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, which would air on TVE1 on New Year’s Eve.
Geraldine was in a relationship with Sergio Arcetura and welcomed daughter Scarlett Acre Cercede in 2012.
Meanwhile, announcing Carlos’ tragic death on Sunday 19 December, Il Divo wrote on Twitter: “It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that our friend and companion, Carlos Marin, is dead.
“His friends, family and fans will miss him. There will never be another voice or spirit like Carlos.”
“For 17 years, the four of us have embarked on this incredible Il Divo journey together and we will miss our dear friend. We hope and pray that his beautiful soul will rest in peace,” he continued.
The tweets were signed by the other singers of the group, Urs Bühler, David Miller and Sébastien Izambard.
Il Divo was formed by Simon Cowell nearly three decades ago and has won numerous accolades, including the Classic Brit Award for Artist of the Decade in 2011.
They have also released ten studio albums and sold over two million concert tickets worldwide.
