How Meghan Markle’s Fashion Has Evolved Since Moving to the States

by Meghan Markle the style is constantly evolving! The 40-year-old’s wardrobe has transformed considerably since she became famous in the 2010s – but that’s not to say she doesn’t continue to do so today.

Since she and her husband prince harry resigned from their royal duties in January 2020, the mom-of-two’s style transformed once again, albeit quietly. To prove it, Us Weekly spoke to Eloise Moran, royal fashion expert and author of The Lady Di Look Book (available for pre-order now).

“We’ve seen her abandon the classic tropes of what it means to be in the royal family,” Moran exclusively says We, noting that one reason for this is because the star no longer has to abide by fashion rules like rigid hem lengths.

“She obviously has this California Montecito thing, the rich mom that happens when she’s in California,” he says, probably a reference to the ex’s pleasantly casual ensembles. Bargain or not to treat the model debuted since moving to Los Angeles in March 2020.

Moran singles out Markle’s September visit to New York City as a defining example of her style transformation. “What I liked so much about the trip to New York is that it showed this kind of Succession wardrobe style, which is what I like to call tycoon style, “explained Moran.” Kind of dresses from Oprah’s young billionaire. “

As devoted fans of the former blogger might remember, Markle wore some epic ensembles on that trip. While he tended to stick to tight silhouettes in the UK, he embraced a bevy of trendy wide leg pants while out and about in the big city.

Moran notes a similarity between Markle’s Big Apple fashion and that of Princess Diana, most notably the last royal’s famous February 1989 trip. “She had a very business-chic wardrobe,” she said, noting that Markle “definitely took a cue” from her late mother-in-law’s dresses.

One of the ways he channeled Princess Diana’s fashion was to predominantly wear “a black and tan look, which according to Moran” was a color palette that Princess Diana also adopted when she went to New York. “

Another one that she – and elegant – loves is the short white A-line Valentino dress she wore at the Global Citizen concert. She accessorized the style with an obvious tribute to Princess Diana: a new edition of the Dior Lady D-Lite bag named after the beloved royal.
