Former South African international Heinrich Malan has been appointed head coach of the Irish cricket team

Heinrich Malan has been named head coach of the Irish men’s team in place of Graham Ford, who stepped down from the role in November.

The 40-year-old South African will take office in March, subject to approval of his work permit, and has agreed on an initial three-year contract.

“It is very humbling and a great honor to be appointed head coach of the Irish men’s team,” said Malan.

“We have an exciting team that has proven that they have the ability to compete with the best players from around the world. It is an exciting challenge and something that we, as a family, are looking forward to.

“Much credit goes to Graham Ford, who has done an exceptional job over the past four years. We have put in place some serious building blocks that I believe we can build as we move forward.”

Malan previously held managerial positions within the New Zealand men’s team and has been head coach of the Auckland Aces since 2019.
