Tottenham boss Antonio Conte says Harry Kane is one of the best strikers he has worked with despite his poor form this season.
The England captain, who won the Premier League Golden Boot last season, has only scored one goal in 14 league appearances this season.
Conte, who has been at the club since the beginning of November, has previously coached Carlos Tevez, Diego Costa and Romelu Lukaku, but places Kane among the best ahead of Sunday’s match against Liverpool, live Sky Sport Premier League.
“Harry is a world-class striker,” he said. “Every day I train him I understand very well that he is a world-class forward.
“He’s one of the best I’ve had the pleasure of coaching. He’s fantastic. I love having him on my team.
“Definitely Jurgen [Klopp] he likes to have Mo Salah. But I love having Harry on my team.
“He is an important player for us and my expectation was very high and to play an important match against Liverpool.”
Kane scored 23 goals and scored 14 last season, but his inability to repeat that level so far this season is perhaps understandable.
He led England to the final of what was effectively a home tournament before losing on penalties at Euro 2020 over the summer and was then the subject of a transfer saga involving Manchester City.
Conte isn’t judging Kane on his numbers, though.

The Italian said of Kane’s lack of goals: “It’s very strange, isn’t it? It’s very strange.
“If you compare what he did in the past, it’s very strange. But even in the past, in my experience, first as a player and then as a manager, it happens.
“I played with important forwards who – for a long time – didn’t score. But my opinion of them hasn’t changed.
“I wanted to have them on my team even if they don’t score. Because if you have Harry Kane on your team, you feel stronger, for sure.”
Conte: Liverpool are a model for success
Tottenham have produced a clear recovery in form since Antonio Conte took over last month, but how will the Italian face his toughest test when his side host Liverpool in front of Sky cameras this weekend?
Three wins and one draw in four league games under Conte saw Spurs rise from troubled waters to seventh in the standings at the weekend, three games down on all but one of the teams above them – potentially nine points higher. which, as it stands, would leave the Spurs just three points behind Chelsea, third in the standings.
This scenario came against the backdrop of a new wave of Covid-19 cases, with the London club postponing a match with Burnley due to snow, the match with Brighton canceled due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the club and one last hour. cancellation in Leicester on Thursday.
Furthermore, the fate of Spurs’ progress in the first edition of the Europa Conference League remains uncertain after the club was forced to cancel the match with Rennes due to the virus, a match they had to play and win to ensure qualification for the round. following. .
Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte explains how the current crisis has rocked the club, the importance of his team behind the scenes, the source of his passion, why he brought Spurs back to racing and how Liverpool are the model for the success…
