Greenpoint This Week: Sustainable Fashion, Library Programming, and More

Good afternoon Greenpointers,

Unfortunately, our biggest news this week was sad: a leptospirosis outbreak that can be traced back to McCarren Park. He is responsible for the deaths of many beloved neighborhood pets, and we encourage everyone to talk to your vet and see what steps you should take to protect your furry friends.

But we know Greenpointers are resilient and creative too – we profiled several trendy businesses last week. Discover Berhaus and Spiti Costa for sustainable fashion. Yoseka Stationery and Archestratus have recently expanded their inventory.

Two local exhibitions have recently been inaugurated. We spoke to textile artist Ann Cofta about her new show at Brouwerij Lane. The Greenpoint branch of the Brooklyn Public Library hosts a one-of-a-kind art program curated by Lenape. It is worth checking out that and other events hosted at the library.

Lots of news on food and drinks this week. Headphones Ridge is a new vegan cafe with a Jamaican twist. We are keeping an eye on Wenwen, a new Taiwanese venue opening soon. Meanwhile, the kombucha Mombucha brand has long been a mainstay of the neighborhood.

If all of this makes your mouth water, you’re in luck: it’s Restaurant Week in New York City and several local restaurants are participating. Be sure to check what offers are being offered.

Brooklyn Community Board 1 kicked off the first meeting of the year. We’ll recap them for you in case you can’t make them.
