Gloria James fashion event set for Playhouse Square during NBA All-Star Weekend

AKRON, Ohio – Gloria James – a native of Akron and mother of LeBron James – will present the inaugural All-Star Experience, The House of Glo, during NBA All-Star Weekend in February.

The event is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Friday, February 18, at the State Theater in Playhouse Square, with a production by Alaina Holloway-Carpenter and VZN Strategy Group, originally from Cleveland.

The fashion experience is one of the many events scheduled for the three days of the All-Star Weekend. The All-Star Game is Sunday 20th February. With an average of over 28 points per game for the Lakers this season, James is a shoo-in to be named for yet another All-Star Game. Except for his 2003-04 rookie season, James has been named All-Star every year he’s been in the league.

The All-Star Experience is heralded as a “culturally immersive celebration” and will feature celebrity stylist J. Bolin, whose clients include Vivica A. Fox, Emmitt Smith, NeNe Leakes, Niecy Nash and others.

The House of Glo fashion presentation aims to celebrate black designers and highlight social justice initiatives. It supports Ohio’s only public HBCU, Central State University, in Wilberforce.

Attendees will have access to a curated market, beauty and charging stations, lounge areas and more. Additional guests, artists, sponsors and exhibitors will be announced in the coming months, organizers said. The experience also includes brunch with single mothers from northeastern Ohio.

“The All-Star Experience weekend is my way to thank the best fans in the country, the village who supported me and give back to my community,” Gloria James said in a statement. “It is only so often that this type of celebration comes to town, so I wanted to curate this experience to ensure that the whole family can be a part of the magic that takes place in the city.”

The event includes a philanthropic component for James, vice president of the Lebron James Family Foundation: he is partnering with Daniel’s Leather and I Promise School to donate coats to the Akron community. The foundation created the school, which opened in 2018 and is run by Akron Public Schools.

Tickets are online; range from $ 75 to $ 300. The deadline for applying for a virtual model is Saturday 8 January.
