Forest Grn 2 – 0 Stevenage

Forest Green opened a seven-point lead at the top of League Two with a 2-0 win over Stevenage, who is still looking for his first win under new boss Paul Tisdale.

Rovers, who hadn’t played since the 5-5 thriller at Oldham on December 11, claimed the spoils thanks to second-half goals from Josh March and Jamille Matt.

Previously, Stevenage had almost taken the leaders by surprise when Rovers goalkeeper Luke McGee showed the courage to dive at Chris Lines’ feet.

And the struggling guests should have broken the halftime stalemate when unmarked Terence Vancooten managed to head McGee when scoring would have been easier.

The Rovers tried to respond, but Jordan Moore-Taylor freaked out and Nicky Cadden also failed to hit the target with another attempt.

The home side had been feeding on scraps but broke deadlock after half-time when March nodded from a move he started, glancing home from a Kane Wilson cross after 57 minutes.

Wilson also contributed to Forest Green’s second goal when Matt touched home inside the box seven minutes later.

Adam Smith’s stern save with his feet denied the Rovers ‘Jack Aitchison a third as Rob Edwards’ side watched the game.
