Fallon Sherrock approaches Q-School with great confidence in his abilities

Fallon Sherrock will begin his offer to secure a PDC Tour Card at the UK 2022 qualifying school on Sunday and says his confidence is “that high” right now.

“The Queen of the Palace,” which continues to break new ground for women in darts, has the chance to secure a spot on the pro circuit over the course of seven days in Milton Keynes.

Qualifying School, or Q-School, features more than 650 players bidding on the 32 available Tour Cards. Simultaneous events are organized in the UK and Germany.

Sherrock first made a global audience aware of his talent during the 2020 PDC World Championship at Alexandra Palace.

After becoming the first woman to win a match in the finest tournament, she then prevailed over Mensur Suljovic in the second round. The 27-year-old’s race was interrupted by Chris Dobey in the third round.

After her successes on the stage of Ally Pally, she received numerous invitations to compete. However, the global pandemic has taken a toll on many.

“I think after the lockout and then when I missed all these opportunities, I thought I just had to let it go,” Sherrock told PDC before Q-School.

“I thought your darts weren’t where they were, and for me it was love at first sight to show the world what I can do.”

Upon her return to Alexandra Palace in December 2021, she was denied a second dream race in the World Championship. Sherrock was beaten 3-2 by an impressive Steve Beaton, who was making his 31st consecutive appearance.

Both players performed splendidly, however, and the match ended a productive year for the 27-year-old.

“I’m very happy with the past 12 months,” Sherrock said. “Especially with the Grand Slam, the Women’s Series and of course the World Series events I’ve played in, I never expected it all to come in one package.

“Going into the Grand Slam, yes, I lost to Peter Wright but in a long format. At the start of that game, I thought I already did it against Michael [van Gerwen], so I could do it against Peter. Now he made me believe a little more. “

The contest referenced by Sherrock with Michael van Gerwen took place at the Nordic Masters in Copenhagen. Van Gerwen had to come back to beat Sherrock 11-7 in the final, having stunned Dimitri Van den Bergh in the semifinals.

Not for the first time, Sherrock had highlighted his fighting qualities and ability to remain calm under pressure, to come back from 7-1 on down against Van den Bergh.

With the confidence he has gained from his fights with Wright and Van Gerwen, his performance and run at the Grand Slam of Darts, and continued maturation as a player, Sherrock now feels in top form ahead of Q-School.

“My confidence is so high right now and I really believe in myself now,” Sherrock shared.

β€œI used to think I could play, but if I did it was another problem. I wasn’t sure which game would come out on stage.

Now, I think I can do it. The difference now is that I really trust myself.

“I was always the one who came under the radar, there were always the best women who were getting everything and I saw what they were doing and I wanted to do it myself. In hindsight, they inspired me to do all of this because I wanted to be like them.

“I hope to try and get a Tour Card because that’s the only thing I have to do, to see how far I can push my game.

“Over the next 12 months, I want to try to qualify as much as possible, gain more TV experience and show everyone what else I can do.

“I have the privilege of playing against great players,” Sherrock concluded. “I want to play against every player and I haven’t done it yet. This is my ambition, I want to play with everyone.”
