In today’s national columnist of Fact or Fiction Mike Farrell examines three recent big topics in college football and decides if each statement is really DONE or if it’s FICTION.

1. Rutgers has guts. Texas A&M no.
Farrell’s Opinion: DONE. The NCAA has allowed teams until January 10 to prepare for bowling matches due to COVID if needed. Texas A & M’s retirement from the Gator Bowl against Wake Forest is Bush League stuff. Rutgers, a 5-7 team, jumped in to replace the Aggies, but the Scarlet Knights aren’t exactly healthy and could barely have 40 scholarship players available.
Everyone is being hammered by COVID these days, but the fact that Rutgers actually said “Yes, let’s go” as the Aggies put their tails between their legs speaks volumes.
Kudos to Rutgers and Wake and shame on Texas A&M here because the Aggies were clearly afraid of a fifth loss.

2. The NCAA is serious about letting a team win a national title due to a forfeit.
Farrell’s version: FICTION. Let’s be real here, shall we? Remember how the NFL said they wouldn’t postpone games for teams that can’t field a roster due to COVID? And what did we see? Matches rescheduled.
There is no way the NCAA will allow a team to win a national title on a forfeit basis; all of this is just hard talk. If one of the playoff teams cannot safely field a roster, the NCAA will move heaven and earth to allow them to play. This is all just attitude.
3. Alabama will win it all.
Farrell’s Opinion: DONE. Michigan is a funny story, and Georgia once had a defense that scared people, but that’s all over. Alabama is winning it all. The tide will roll Cincinnati maybe 30 or 40 points, and the Georgia-Michigan winner doesn’t have the offense to win a battle against Alabama.
It would be fun for any of the other three teams to win it all as Alabama’s victory has become common, but it won’t happen. Bryce Young and company are just too strong.
