Every Look from 1017 ALYX 9SM Fall/Winter 2022 Collection

Intricate marble floors, historic Renaissance-style frescoes, and an ancient wooden altar form the enthralling backdrop for the 1017 ALYX 9SM Fall / Winter 2022 “FADE” Collection, which took place inside an enchanting historic church in Milan on January 14 at 20:00 Central European time. Creative Director Matthew M. Williams launched 1017 ALYX 9SM in 2015 in New York City and has since created a brand that cleverly walks the line between streetwear and luxury apparel. Drawing from the youth subcultures of California and New York and using innovative design processes and materials, Williams aims to “combine technical innovation with human emotion” through the brand.

Set against the upbeat techno music that Williams teased in an Instagram post on January 13, the Fall / Winter 2022 fashion show did not disappoint. The first impact look features an oversized brown jacket with an exaggerated shoulder paired with matching wide leg cargo pants that showcase 3D cut out outer pockets. At the model’s feet are sculptural injected single polymer boots inspired by Fall 22 mono slip-on that Williams unveiled on Instagram earlier this week. This ultralight architectural boot makes numerous appearances throughout the collection, highlighting its wearable versatility.

The Fall / Winter 2022 collection perfectly intertwines streetwear and luxury. The collection is wearable, with most looks airing on the oversized side. The corset tops present throughout the collection, for example, do not tighten the body but hang casually against the elegant figures of the model. At the same time, these garments don’t look baggy or oversized, just comfortable and cool. Heavy jersey down jackets and vests, textured wool jackets and sexy but wearable dresses with raw stitching and leather straps are featured throughout the collection. Finally, it is noteworthy that all models wear intimidating dark sunglasses as they stride down the marble runway, some carry large but simple leather purses, the long shoulder strap twisted between their fingers. These comfortable and chic pieces are all ideal for our contemporary 2022 lifestyle.

Shiny PVC leather, cozy chic (sometimes reversible) shearling and textured knit are some of the natural and technical materials Williams employs across the line. The organic color palette is cohesive, with black as the most dominant color, followed by soft shades of green. A bold red and hot pink punctuate the muted colors, keeping viewers on their toes.

Overall, the 42-look collection builds on William’s previous line perfectly, expanding pre-existing ideas and planting new ones. The clothing is elevated and innovative while remaining accessible and wearable. Despite being a relatively young brand, 1017 ALYX 9SM seems to have found its way into the fashion industry and this collection feels like the epitome of cool. The future is bright for Matthew M. Williams.
