Derrick Lewis calls out former champion in bonkers fashion

Derrick Lewis has made a big name for himself in the UFC for his enormous power and great lines. He is now looking to take on a former champion for his next match.

Derrick Lewis is back from a big win over Chris Daukaus in December. He is now looking to continue his rebound by facing a former UFC champion.

“I wanted to fight and not put pressure on myself and it was great,” the UFC heavyweight told The MMA Hour. “I’m going to do it for the rest of my career now. Go out there and have fun and feel like I don’t have to prove anything. So this is one of the reasons why I want to fight Stipe. I feel like it would be a great match for the fans and for both of us. He’s more of a wrestler, I’m more of a wrestler too, so it would be a great and fun fight. I’ve fought with pretty much everyone in the Division Top 10, so it’s like a new face, new blood. I believe I will be a heavy loser in this fight and help my fans get their money back from the Gane fight.

Derrick Lewis is definitely not someone UFC fans would call a “wrestler”. His style has been described as ‘stand and bang’ but never as a wrestler.

The UFC heavyweight has great ground technique where he literally stands up when tired of his opponents fighting him. That’s how Derrick Lewis will come closest to being called a wrestler.
