Danny Rose: Watford full-back set to leave in January transfer window with Hornets close to signing Udinese defender Samir | Transfer Centre News

Danny Rose’s short stint at Watford is coming to an end after the full-back is told he will no longer play for the club.

Rose signed a two-year deal at Vicarage Road last June after leaving Tottenham after 14 years, but the Premier League club made him available for transfer this month.

Earlier this season, Watford manager Claudio Ranieri called the full-back to return to the best form of his career, which saw him earn 29 caps for England.

“I remember Danny playing for Tottenham and England and I need this Danny,” said Ranieri.

“I think it’s more a question of fitness than confidence. When he arrived he was in poor shape and now he’s improved a lot but he still has to improve. It’s difficult to say how long it will take.”

Rose made nine appearances for Watford this season, picking up a fifth yellow card in a 3-1 home defeat to Manchester City on 4 December, but hasn’t been called back since returning from a one-match ban.

Watford will not recall the 31-year-old’s services this weekend against Leicester in the FA Cup third round and has decided to make him available for transfer in this window.

Meanwhile, the Hornets are close to signing Udinese central defender Samir.

The 27-year-old Brazilian visited the club’s training ground earlier this week and is set to complete a transfer from the Pozzo-owned Serie A club on a three-year contract with the option of another year.

Watford have already signed Hassane Kamara, while KAS midfielder Eupen Edo Kayembe and Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida have been linked to a move as they try to avoid an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship.
