Goodbye, 2021! As the end of the year approaches, Us Weekly’s Stylish is retracing the best moments of fashion on the red carpet of 2021.
It’s been a roller coaster awards season, to say the least. As the coronavirus continued to spread across the country, award shows were forced to adapt to protect presenters and attendees.
But the show continued! The Golden Globes (which typically kick off the awards season) have been postponed from January to the end of February). Presenters walked the red carpet from New York or Beverly Hills while nominees practically tuned in from home.
Then came the Critics Choice Awards, also postponed from February to March. While a handful of presenters walked the red carpet, the nominees practically attended from home. So instead of posing on the red carpet, the stars held impromptu photo shoots at home, which actually turned out to be quite epic.
For the March 14 Grammys (rejected since January), both artists and nominees walked the red carpet as usual, scrupulously adhering to guidelines on social distancing. So many stars made the 63rd annual awards show a night to remember, like Taylor Swift And Dua Lipa. The “All Too Well” singer arrived in a double flower-embellished mini dress, while the “Levitating” hitmaker was stunned in a cut-out dress covered with sparkly mesh.
Then came the Oscars, which were moved to April. The event had a mostly traditional red carpet of all and it’s clear the stars took it as a sign to bring their A-game. Eg, Carey Mulligan came out with one of the most jaw-dropping dresses of the night: a sparkling two-piece Valentino dress with a long train.
And finally, al Met Gala 2021 – postponed from May to September – the red carpet looked as traditional as it was before the COVID-19 outbreak. Inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, stars had to wear masks, but the buzz before the show seemed as normal as ever! Kendall Jenner debuted with one of her best dresses to date: a transparent and bejeweled Givenchy Haute Couture design.
