Artur Beterbiev is ‘a beast’ who ‘will hunt you down’, says Top Rank’s Todd DuBoef – will he fight Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez? | Boxing News

Artur Beterbiev is “a force of nature” chasing a major battle against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, says Top Rank president Todd DuBoef.

Undefeated Beterbiev will defend his IBF and WBC light heavyweight championships against Marcus Browne, live on Sky Sports, early Saturday morning.

The mighty Russian is the only world champion in all sport with a 100% knockout record.

“Beterbiev is the opposite of Vasiliy Lomachenko stylistically,” said DuBoef of Top Rank, who promotes both men.

“It’s a force of nature.

“You can see his grit and stoic demeanor.

“He does amazing strength exercises.

“Beterbiev is an absolute beast. He will hunt you down, take what you have and tear your head off!

“He’s as exciting as anyone else. Everyone wants to watch him in the ring.

“The most important thing for him is: what’s next? Can he pull Canelo? What are his opportunities?”

Will Canelo step forward to challenge Beterbiev?

Mexican superstar Canelo is currently the undisputed middleweight champion and title holder of four divisions – his courageous pursuit of bigger and more difficult tests led to receiving permission from the WBC to challenge their cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu .

He’s already made the move to light heavyweights once and knocked out Sergey Kovalev, but Beterbiev would represent the stiffest test of Canelo’s brilliance to date.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum previously said Canelo is thrilled: “He expressed interest in me fighting Beterbiev or Joe Smith Jr.

“I can’t wait for May or September, the two dates that Canelo loves to fight, which he will fight against one of those light heavyweights.

“Some will say that Beterbiev is too big and powerful. Others will say that Canelo is special and can handle everyone.

“It is one of the greatest fights in boxing.”

Beterbiev’s fearsome reputation was cemented when he knocked to the ground and stopped Oleksandr Gvozdyk, who was another undefeated world champion, in a grueling fight that was seen as 50-50 ahead.
