Alexandria boys get a statement win in emphatic fashion against 7th-ranked Austin

The Alexandria men’s basketball team has a group of players who can score the ball as evidence from a season opener of 93 points this year. What fans are discovering earlier this season is that Alexandria’s defense is just as impressive.

The fourth-placed Cardinals were at the Breakdown Tip-Off Classic at Hopkins High School on Saturday afternoon, where they played what looked like a good match on paper against Austin (1-1) in seventh place. Alexandria turned off the Packers to win 68-34 and improve to 3-0. The Cardinals have outpaced the teams by nearly 32 points per game in their three wins.

Alexandria was leading 40-21 at the half.

Victor Idris was the only Austin player in double figures with 10 points. Kristen Hoskins scored 18 points for the Cardinals and second forward Grayson Grove added 15 points. Grove was named the game’s Breakdown player for his performance.

The Cardinals will play Willmar (0-2) Tuesday night at 7:15 am.
