When customers walk into the new Aksels store in downtown Steamboat Springs, they will be greeted by uniquely designed and Colorado-influenced hats, socks, t-shirts and accessories.

“We offer products that are more unique and artistically thought out and designed than Colorado products,” said manager Tim O’Connor. “We’re trying to be a little different from every other Colorado store out there. … We make all kinds of different products that will be influenced by Colorado. We offer really great Colorado and Steamboat gear and really thought out. “

Aksels. based in Denver (pronounced Axels) was founded in 2007 and has a warehouse in Denver, along with stores in the Cherry Creek Mall, Park Meadows Mall, Denver International Airport, Castle Rock, Salida, and now Steamboat.

The Steamboat store, open in mid-December, is located on the lower level of the Old Town Square Building at 635 Lincoln Avenue.

“Our main focus is on hats and socks,” O’Connor said. “That’s where the brand really started.”

O’Connor said the products are made from high-quality materials and most of the t-shirts and hoodies are made from a cotton blend which offers a comfortable fit while remaining durable. It says all items are unique, with a design that features the state and city with edgy, up-to-date choices.

“We use high quality materials throughout our clothing,” O’Connor said. “All Steamboat Aksels designs will be one of a kind, so you won’t be able to find them anywhere else.”

He said the products are created by Aksels’ design team, who have created T-shirts, hoodies, hats and socks that are as unique as the cities they are trying to reflect.

Like the shirts, the socks are also made of high quality materials and offer customers a blend of cotton, nylon and spandex with a reinforced heel and toe and a seamless closure. While most of the items in the store are Colorado themed, the range of socks includes other cities and states, and the store collections include animals, gnome life, holiday treats, mountains, skylines, and sports.

In addition to T-shirts and socks, shoppers will also find a wide selection of baseball caps in different styles, including snapback and Flexfit. Models with curved beak, flat beak, low profile, camper hats, structured camper, full flex, foam and dad are available. The shop also offers fisherman caps and hats. All graphic designs are produced by Aksels in the company’s warehouse in Denver and the embroidery on the hats is also done in-house.

The store also offers a selection of women’s leggings, flip flops made from recycled bicycle tires, Colorado-inspired dog leashes, and a huge selection of Colorado-inspired stickers.
