Texas A&M closed the early subscription period with the highest rated 2022 class in the country, overtaking Alabama and Georgia for command. The Aggies had a big leap forward on recruiting range 2025 by landing a verbal engagement from IMG Academy receiver Winston Watkins Jr. Monday night.
After playing college as an eighth grader for Evangelical Christian in Fort Myers, Florida’s prospect has begun to grab the attention of national recruiting. Switching to a talented IMG Academy team for the 2021 season didn’t hurt to have extra scout eyes on him along with cousin bloodlines that include former Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins and UAB receiver Austin. Watkins.
Before performing at the FBU Freshman All-American Bowl in Naples (Fla.) On Monday, Watkins took center stage with Florida State, Florida, Texas A&M and Georgia Tech hats in front of him. By quickly picking up the Texas A&M hat, the Aggies have one of the best players in the nation on board.
Watkins spoke of his commitment: “It was my connection with the coaching staff and coach (Jimbo) Fisher of Texas A&M. I like it there “.
Prior to his public announcement, Watkins reached out to A&M staff to share the good news with them first: “I am committed to coaching Fisher. He was thrilled when I told him I was making an effort. ”
While verbally tied to A&M, expect offers to keep coming in for Watkins. During his eighth-grade season with the Sentinels, Watkins contributed to all three stages of the game. In attack, he was a game machine that carried in 25 passes for 430 yards with two scores as he ran 199 yards on 30 transports with another trip to the goal zone. Playing behind highly recruited seniors this fall, Watkins will have the opportunity in 2022 to once again showcase his skills on a national stage.
