Samsung’s iPad Challenger Kicks off Tablet War

The first real challenger to Apple’s iPad, the Samsung Galaxy Tab, will launch in Australia in November for $999 for the 16GB version, the company has confirmed.

Meanwhile, BlackBerry maker Research in Motion is preparing to announce its tablet next week at the company’s developer conference in San Francisco, The Wall Street Journal reported.

And Dell overnight unveiled its second tablet computer, which like its previously announced Streak also runs Android. It has a 7-inch touchscreen compared to the 5-inch screen on the Streak, but Dell has not yet announced when either of the models would launch in Australia.

Apple has cornered the tablet market since the launch of its iPad but starting from late this year there will be a raft of challengers from companies including Acer, Asus, Dell, RIM, Lenovo, Samsung and Cisco. (more…)

Galaxy Tab,SAMSUNG Android Tablet

Apple iPad finally getting serious competition from South Korea. Samsung has just officially presents Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab. Not just a tablet, Samsung Galaxy Tab is also equipped with a phone function.

“This is not just another tablet. We call it a Smart Media device,” Thomas Richter, Samsung’s head of product portfolio, told a packed press conference at the at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.

In terms of size, Android tablet screen is smaller than the iPad, only about 7 inches. In the TFT screen is capacitive, Samsung offers a picture resolution of 1024×600 pixels is powered Cortex-A8 processor-powered 1GHz.

Memory capacity is quite large. There are two options, with a memory (storage) or an internal 16GB 32 GB with 512 MB of RAM. Capacity can still be added 32GB with a microSD card to help the tablet’s performance is better. (more…)

iPad 3G Goes on Sale

In the second stage of a two-part rollout, Apple began selling the pricier, high-speed wireless version of the iPad in the United States, on Friday.

Although the event certainly lacked the buildup and excitement of the April 3 debut of the Wi-fi version – with the heartiest waiting in line overnight – some Apple retail stores in big cities still saw decent-sized crowds ahead of the 5 pm launch.

At a store in downtown San Francisco, roughly 75 people stood in line 90 minutes before the 3G iPad went on sale.

Several people said they had waited for the more expensive version of Apple’s tablet because they saw it as a potential replacement for their laptops, at least in certain situations. (more…)
