Teen Sells Kidney for iPad-2

A Chinese teenager has reportedly sold one of his kidneys for 20,000 yuan ($3170) so he could buy an iPad 2.

The high school student from Anhui Province, Xiao Zhang, confessed to his mother that he was motivated to sell the kidney after seeing an internet advertise that offering cash to people who were prepared to become organ donors, the Global Times reported. His mother had discovered the iPad-2 and forced him to reveal how he was able to afford it. (more…)

RIM claims BlackberryPlaybook better than iPad

Blackberry Playbook-Jim Balsillie, chief executive officer of Research In Motion (RIM), maker of the BlackBerry, launched a veiled attack on Apple in the Web 2.0 summit in San Francisco.

Balsillie told delegates at the event was that RIM’s upcoming tablet computers, Playbook, will be “three or four times” faster for browsing than the Apple product, iPad and other tablets.

He also criticized Apple’s application ecosystem for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, and tell the users “do not require applications for the web.”

Balsillie acknowledged that there is a role for the original application, but the web browser remains the best way to obtain information on mobile devices. (more…)

Black Pad is a Business iPad From RIM Launched!

Research in Motion(RIM) has been quietly touting a big press event Monday in San Francisco and it appears its Black Pad tablet may be the main event. Officially, RIM isn’t talking about the event. It’s way secretive, but we’re told it’s important. The RIM press briefing is expected to go down Monday before its developer conference in San Francisco. At the event, RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis will deliver the keynote at Moscone West.

The tablet computer is going to emulate the success of BlackBerry’s Apps Store and make use of the safe reputation BlackBerry devices still have in corporate circles. Major enterprise applications vendors like Citrix, whose Receiver app is a hit on the Apple iPad, are understood to be planning to support RIM’s device. The device, which is expected to be launched at a RIM developer conference, will mark a new challenge to the dominance of Apple’s iPad in the tablet computer market, coming as Samsung, Dell and Motorola all prepare similar devices that run on the increasingly popular Android operating system made by Google.
