Android App downloads exceeding Apple’s iOS – Ovum, a research firm based in the UK predicts by 2011, Android app download is predicted to exceed the downloads available in the iOS.
If this prediction is true, then this is the first time where Android Apple managed to surpass the achievement of the downloaded application. (more…)

Apple is planning to release an iPhone 5 as early as September. The model is likely to include a faster computer chip and a more advanced camera.
The company is also reported to be testing a version of the iPad with a higher resolution screen. The release of the iPhone 5 in just a few months could add millions more sales to the technology firm’s range of smartphones. The iPhone is Apple’s top seller. (more…)

The first real challenger to Apple’s iPad, the Samsung Galaxy Tab, will launch in Australia in November for $999 for the 16GB version, the company has confirmed.
Meanwhile, BlackBerry maker Research in Motion is preparing to announce its tablet next week at the company’s developer conference in San Francisco, The Wall Street Journal reported.
And Dell overnight unveiled its second tablet computer, which like its previously announced Streak also runs Android. It has a 7-inch touchscreen compared to the 5-inch screen on the Streak, but Dell has not yet announced when either of the models would launch in Australia.
Apple has cornered the tablet market since the launch of its iPad but starting from late this year there will be a raft of challengers from companies including Acer, Asus, Dell, RIM, Lenovo, Samsung and Cisco. (more…)

On Wednesday today, Motorola introduced the Droid X — the company’s response to the Apple iPhone 4. On Thursday, the iPhone 4 goes on sale. As a result, the digital world has a smartphone smackdown rivaling a wrestling match promoter Vince McMahon might emcee. What follows is a specification comparison between the hardware and software of the Droid X and the iPhone 4. Stay tuned for hands-on testing comparing the two models.
Like the iPhone 4, the Droid X is not a big surprise, as “leaked” images and specifications of the device surfaced on the Web weeks ago.
But it’s official now: Verizon, Motorola, and Google have launched their latest competitor to the iPhone 4, which created mayhem at pre-ordering stage, with over 600,000 advance sales recorded.
