Egyptian military court jailed a blogger named Maikel Nabil for three years for criticizing the military, which ruled the country since the revolution against President Hosni Mubarak last February.

“It is unfortunate, the military court sentenced Maikel Nabil Nasr City with three years’ imprisonment. Yet the defenders were absent, and the decision was made ??almost in secret,” said Gamal Eid, one lawyer Nabil, Monday (11 / 4).

Nabil guilty of “insulting the military” and publishing false news. His lawyers said he would appeal against the decision.

The verdict is likely to cause concern among the major networks Egyptian bloggers who hope to overthrow Mubarak in a popular uprising will open a new era of freedom of expression.

Last week, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has called the decision to cancel, but never responded. “The armed forces have to cancel Egypt all the charges against (Nabil) because of his Internet posts critical of the military,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Director of HRW’s Middle East and Africa.

“The trial has led to a dangerous precedent when Egypt tried to make the transition from arbitrary Mubarak era,”said Whitson.

This is the first trial against bloggers who held military tribunals since the High Military Council (DTM) to power after Mubarak’s resignation on 11 February.

Military Police arrested Nabil, one of the online activists, on March 28, after criticizing the military in writing on his blog. Postings and comments Nabil on social networking site Facebook used as evidence against him at trial.
